Election Fiasco For the General Assembly Judiciary Board

After watching the fiasco of an election, I could not be silent and want to show why the General Assemblies removal Justice Connors from the Judiciary Board. Because of the violation of the laws of the Church that election is Void Ab Initio (Void from the beginning).

Just like when the police violate the law, everything found doing the search is thrown out. Whatever the reason for such an egregious violation of the law, be it ignorance or intentional, it is evident we do not respect our laws nor those of the state. We must keep our word, that is where honor and integrity begin.

Below I have placed excerpts from page 12 of the General Assembly minutes of April 2016

Chairman Hunt called for the Resolution, Nominating and Election Committees. Dr. Diana Banks and The Resolution Committee presented resolution # 042016 – 5 – Proposed Maximum Time Period for Judiciary Board (See Attachment D). The purpose of the Resolution was to standardize the expiration dates of the terms of board members Dr. Banks moved for the adoption of the Resolution. After a proper second, THE MOTION CARRIED.

Chairman Hunt stated the will of the General Assembly is stated in its Charter, Constitution, and Its Bylaws, also in resolutions approved by the Assembly. He explained that once Resolutions are approved in the General Assembly, they become the law of our church. He then called for Assistant Parliamentarian, Pastor Andrew Smith to read previously approved resolutions (Nov. 1985; April 1990; April 2013) regarding establishing Jurisdictional Pastors and Elders Councils. Chairman Hunt stated the duties of the Presiding Bishop and General Board include executing the decisions of the General Assembly. Therefore, he was passing responsibility to Bishop Blake to assure each jurisdiction in the Church of God Christ is complying with the Resolutions approved in this General Assembly.

Text of Resolution #042016-5

Whereas, the term of office for a judiciary board member with the exception of the initial staggered term shall be 7 years period a member shall not be elected for more than two terms and may not serve more than 14 years in office

Whereas, continuance and office beyond the initial term is subject to the approval of the registered delegates present and voting at the General Assembly session proceeding the expiration of the term of office

Whereas, individuals are elected to fulfill terms of persons no longer able to serve on the judiciary board and whereas often these periods varies in time frame we want to maintain continuity on the board but not penalize persons for serving for this.

Therefore, be it resolved that the General Assembly adopts and approves this resolution that individuals who complete the term of another individual for a period less than 3 1/2 years prior to the termination of that term be allowed to serve if elected for two full terms regardless of the 14 year limitation
